Established in 1973, The Union des Grands Crus de Bordeaux includes both classified and non-classified estates in the Médoc, Graves, Pessac-Léognan, Sauternes, Barsac, Saint-Emilion and Pomerol appellations. One hundred twenty Chateaux are united by the quality of their soil and climate, their winemaking methods and facilities, their insistence on estate -bottling and their tradition of hospitality. These Chateaux have signed a Charter confirming their commitment to defend, promote and share their values. The members of the Union des Grands Crus de Bordeaux have a major economic impact. Their vineyards cover a total of 5.241 hectares on some of the finest winegrowing soil in Bordeaux. Member Chateaux have 2.450 full-time employees and as many as 7.000 temporary ones. Their combined annual production amounts to 236.000 hectoliters for a total turnover of some 1.7 billion French francs. The Chateaux that make up the Union des Grands Crus de Bordeaux are leaders in their fields, producing quality wines that combine unique natural blessings with the finest human know-how. By marrying age-old winegrowing traditions and the most up-to-date methods, these estates form a precious part of the entire Bordeaux wine heritage.
