Chateau Beau-Sejour Becot is located on the plateau of Saint-Martin de Mazerat, to the immediate west of Saint-Emilion village, in the heart of the Saint-Emilion appellation.
During the Middle-Ages the monks of Saint-Martin took over at the Chateau Beau-Sejour Becot where the Gallo-Romans had left off eight centuries before. The estate then passed into the Geres family, who were nobility from the Camarsac area. In 1722, one of their descendants, Jeanne de Geres, married into the Carles de Figeac family, and brought the estate with her. The estate was named Beau-Sejour in 1787 by the new proprietor, General Jacques de Carle. However, he had no successor, and after a series of sales and inheritances the estate of Beau-Sejour fell in 1924 into the hands of Docteur Jean Fagouet, who expanded the vineyard to 10 hectares 5 (about 26 acres). Michel Becot, originating from a wine-growing family settled in Saint-Emilion since 1760, bought the estate in 1969. Château Beau-Sejour became Château Beau-Sejour Becot. Michel Becot retired in 1985, and his sons, Gerard and Dominique, now manage the estate. Chateau Beau-Sejour Becot was classified in 1855 as a first classified growth B (premier grand cru classe B). Merlot (70%), Cabernet franc (24%) and Cabernet-Sauvignon (6%) are the grape varieties of the blend.
