The château Belair is a first growth from the classification of 1955.
The origin of the estate came from Gaul’s period. In 14th century, the owner was Sir Robert de Knolles. In 15th century, his descendants stayed in the country and gallicized their name: “de Knolles” became “Canolle”. The estate, called “Cru de Canolle” then “Belair”, belonged to them until the French Revolution. Indeed, the chateau was confiscated then restored.
In 1802, the chateau Belair took off. That’s the way and for the first time, the harvest of 1802 was bottled in the chateau. In 1855, chateau Belair was the first wine of Saint-Emilion to be named in the red wines classification of Gironde area.
In 1916, the Dubois-Challon family bought the estate. After the death of her husband, Madam Jean Dubois-Challon with the help of a professional team manages the chateau.
