Château Pontet-Canet owes its name to Jean François Pontet, Royal Master of the Horse in the 18th century, and the later attached vineyards in an area called “Canet”. About 1750, the estate was one of the largest domains in the Médoc. Hundred years later, Hermann Cruse, a wine shipper, purchased the château and its vineyards.
The most prestigious dynasties combined their talents to fashion this great Cru of Médoc. Guy TESSERON was already a well-known Cognac merchant, when he became the owner of Pontet-Canet 30 years ago.
Today his son earns the esteemed reputation of Pontet-Canet each year with the production of this superlative wine. Thanks to the typical soil trilogy, gravels, clay and limestone, the best grape varieties are favoured: Cabernets Sauvignons (60%), Cabernets Francs (5%), Merlots (33%) and Petit Verdot (2%).
A very rigorous selection is carried out among the grapes which are hand-sorted.
The delicious composition of fruit has a very beautiful intense ruby-red colour.
It discloses a succession of harmonious sensations, powerful and complex.
Interestingly, this tannic wine is instantly recognizable on the palate with its rich and long, structure. Pontet-Canet belongs to the elite of Pauillac.
