Champagne Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin
Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin is a company producing Champagne which was funded in 1772. It is located in Reims and belongs to the group LVMH.
In the Champagne region, the harvests have to be realised manually. Then, the grapes are put into wine presses. Veuve Clicquot realises a vinification for each grape variety, afterwards the musts are subjected to a malolactic fermentation. The Brut Carte Jaune of Veuve Clicquot is assembled with about 50 different vineyards.
In 1772, Philippe Clicquot created a wine negociant company. In 1798, Barbe Nicole Ponsardin married Francois Clicquot. In 1805, after the death of François Clicquot, the young widow (27 years old) Barbe Nicole Ponsardin decided to manage the company, and in 1810 the firm took the name of Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin. Barbe managed very hard to develop the prestige of her company, that is why she was nicknamed “Veuve Clicquot” or “La Grande Dame de Champagne”.
Nowadays, the domain extends over 515 hectares.
