Romanee Conti

The domain of Romanee Conti is one of the most famous in the world. It is located in Cote de Beaune and Cote de Nuits, and extends over 25 hectares. It produces wine on different appellations: Richebourg, La Romanee, Romanee-Conti, Romanee Saint-Vivant, Grande Rue, Grands Echezeaux, Echezeaux, Montrachet, Vosne Romanee, Batard Montrachet and La Tache.

Among all these grands crus, Romanee Conti is the best wine in Burgundy. It belongs to Cote de Nuits, located in the village of Vosne Romanee. It extends over 1.8 hectares. The vine contains only one grape variety: Pinot Noir, which gives small dark-blue grapes. This grape variety is very sensitive to lots of diseases, especially the Mildou, besides the wine from Romanee-Conti was not exploited between 1945 and 1951 because of phylloxera contamination.

Only 6000 bottles by year are produced in Romanee-Conti, and the owner M. Aubert de Villaine has to dispatch his production. The bottles are sold by cases of 12, and one bottle of Romanee-Conti is mixed with 11 other bottles of a grand cru (Echezeaux, Romanee Saint-Vivant, Richebourg…).

The wines are elaborated in oak barrels for 18 months, and the yield is around 35 hectolitres by hectare.

The 6 grands crus realised by Domaine Romanee Conti are: Romanee-Conti, La Tache, Richebourg, La Romanee, Romanee Saint-Vivant, La Grande Rue.
