Chateau Latour Martillac
The tower, beautifully gracing the main courtyard, gave its name to the estate; it is the only trace left of a small fortified castle built in the 12th century by Montesquieu’s forefathers. Edouard Kressmann showed some interest for this growth as early as 1871, when he settled in Bordeaux as a wine merchant. The oldest part of the vineyard, grafted in 1884, still displays the whole range of the white grape varieties that Edouard loved. Alfred, Edouard’s eldest son, bought the estate in 1929. The present label, designed by Alfred’s son, Jean, with gold and black wide oblique stripes, was adopted in 1934; it was inaugurated on a 1929 bottle served in 1936 for His Majesty George VI’s coronation at Buckingham Palace.
In 1955 Jean inherits the estate which he had managed since 1940 for his father. Tristan and Loïc, two of his sons, have now taken over.
With the advice of some of the best consultants in Bordeaux, they set their hearts on carrying on improving the quality of those great wines, classified in red as well as in white. This wine is a Classified Graves Growth.

Chateau Latour Pauillac Bordeaux France
Latour is a first growth 1855 or “Premier Cru Classé en 1855”.
The name Château Latour evokes a glorious tower built on the banks of the Gironde, overlooking the water and the vines.
Created about 1680, the vineyard of Château Latour is one of the oldest in the Medoc.
At the beginning of the 18th century, Château Latour started to be highly recognized around the world, thanks to the English aristocracy and other wealthy groups of consumers in northern Europe. And that was how Thomas Jefferson, Ambassador of the United States in France, and future President, discovered this Bordeaux wine
The reputation of Château Latour was consolidated during the 19th century. It was confirmed in 1855, when the government of Napoléon III decided to classify the estates of the Médoc and the Graves for the International Exhibition in Paris : Château Latour was classified as First Growth.
In July 1993, Mr PINAULT brought Château Latour back into French hands after 30 years of British ownership.
For information, the grapes are mostly Cabernet-Sauvignon (78%), and Merlot Noir (17%), the others 5% split between Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.
This first growth 1855 has an intense crimson colour; its complex liquorice bouquet is quite closed-in. It is obviously a wine of substance, powerful and generous with ripe tannin insuring that the grapes were at their peak when picked.

Latour L. Burgundy
The family-run company of Maison Louis Latour is one of the most highly-respected négociant-éléveurs in Burgundy. Renowned throughout the world for the quality of its red and white wines, the company has built a reputation for tradition and innovation.
Regarded as one of the traditional négociant-éléveurs, Maison Louis Latour is the producer of some of the finest Burgundian wines but has also pioneered the production of fine wines from outside of the confines of Burgundy.
These wines from the Ardèche and the Côteaux de Verdon are slowly gaining esteem for their unmatchable quality outside of Burgundy. The Latour family themselves have been viticulteurs since the 17th century, slowly building up a unique Domaine of 50 hectares (125 acres). This Domaine has the largest Grand Cru property in the Cote d'Or with a total of 28,63 hectares (71,58 acres) . The vineyards extend from Chambertin in the north to Chevalier-Montrachet in the south and are solely planted with the two noble grape varieties ; Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
All of the grapes from the vineyards we own are vinified and aged in the attractive cuverie of Château Corton Grancey in Aloxe-Corton. The winery was the first purpose-built cuverie in France and remains the oldest still-functioning. A unique rail-way system with elevators allows the entire wine-making process to be achieved by the use of gravity. This eliminates the threat of oxidation from unnecessary pumping of the must. Since 1985 Louis Latour has been selling the wines of its own vineyards under the name Domaine Louis Latour.
The Latour family founded the 'Maison de négoce', an important shipping company, in 1797 and is still based at 18 Rue des Tonneliers in Beaune. The company is unique in Burgundy in that it is still to this day family owned and family run, having passed down from father to son for over ten generations.
In 1997 to celebrate our Bicentenary, we published a commemorative book and were admitted into the exclusive club of the Hénokiens. This club only admits companies that are leaders in their respective fields, remain family owned, have a history of 200 years' experience and still bares the name of the founder.
There are only approximately 30 of these companies in the world. To this day Maison Louis Latour ships its wines to over 60 different countries worldwide and will be found on some of the most famous dining tables around the globe.
