Chateau Beauregard Pomerol Bordeaux France
First established in the 11th century by the Maltese Knights, Château Beauregard was acquired in 1991 by Foncier Vignobles, who has renovated the vineyard, vat cellar and barrel cellar. A vast programme of replanting, soil draining and selection for Merlot and Cabernet Franc grape varieties has enhanced the magnificent terroir of this great growth.
Crop thinning (the removal of excess grape bunches on young vines and certain old vines) has become a regular practice since 1992, as well as systematic manual leaf thinning in the foliage around the bunches.
These techniques, which are called “green work”, enable us to obtain a better ripening of the grapes, a concentration of the aromas and the tannins contained in the skins, and therefore to bring out a more stylish and complex expression of the terroir in the wine.
Built in 1795 from the plans of a student of Victor Louis, the architect of Bordeaux Grand Théâtre, the residence of Château Beauregard is alone well-worth a visit, if only for the charm and tranquillity that this magical setting provides!
Château Beauregard owns 17.5 hectares (about 43 acres) of vines, with 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc.

Chateau Clinet Pomerol Bordeaux France
Château Clinet’s reputation as a fine wine producer was already established by the 19thC. The arrival or J.M. Arcaute as a managing director in the early 80s marked a real turning point in the wines of Clinet. He introduced revolutionary changes such as reducing the percentage of the Cabernets in favour of the more suitable Merlot.
In the winery, the length of the elevage was increased –from 13 months in 1970 to almost 24 months today, according to the characteristics of the vintage.
J.L. Laborde, an agronomist, purchased the Château Clinet, in 1998 and brought with him a new approach of the wine.
In the vineyard, a long-term replanting programme was introduced, such as working the soil as opposed to systematic application of herbicides an manual work wherever possible. Ageing takes place in 100 % new French oak barrels for the Grand vin, for a duration of 18-24 months.
This wine privileges above all the quality of the fruit brought in from the vineyards, with the aim of respecting the unique terroir of Pomerol and its inimitable characteristics.
Thanks to the help of the very famous oenologist Michel Rolland, he succeeded in renewing the image of Clinet and empathized the character of the wine through balancing the grapes varieties used.
Clinet is one the most interesting Pomerol.

Chateau Enclos Haut Mazeyres - Pomerol - Bordeaux France
It has been passed down through the generations since 1831, and although this may displease men, women have consistently been responsible for the destiny of Château L'Enclos Haut-Mazeyres. From these 8.5 hectares of superb quality terroir, a couple working in harmonious unison strives to extract the quintessence of Pomerol. Established when the lands that constituted the Mazeyres domain were divided up at the time of the construction of the first railway line between Bordeaux and Paris, Château L'Enclos Haut Mayzeres is a place one would imagine as the perfect setting for a wine holiday. Anyway, it's the impression you have when walking on this estate's ancient lands of tremendous quality; 8.5 hextares of gentle slopes of gravel terraces, comprised of crushed or worn flint, mixed with damp clay and ferruginous standstone, called "crasse de fer" in the Pomerol appellation. A haven of peace, the estate resembles a cleverly set scene where the combination of blond Libourne stone and Mediterranean parasol pines gives a delightful touch of Provincia Romana. Francoise and Roland Souille de PEDRO made no mistake here and working in close collaboration with their family, passionately cultivate a vision of whine which is both traditional and extremely artistic...Characters, gentleness, mindness, but never powerfulness! |
Chateau Gazin Pomerol Bordeaux France
The development of the Pomerol vineyard in the 12th century up to the French Revolution of 1789 around the command of the Knights of St John of Jerusalem, Rhodes and Malta. The present day Château GAZIN, which was once a village in the 18th century, is located on the site of the hospital built by the Knights to host the pilgrims on their way to Santiago de Compostella; in the French department of the Gironde.
Château GAZIN wines are a very typical product of the Pomerol terroir. The grapes are fermented in small cement vats. The wine is aged for 18 months in oak barrels (50% new) according to the Bordeaux tradition: malolactic fermentation in casks, rackings to separate the fine wine from the lees, fining with egg whites and, if necessary, light filtration. Their lavish richness offers a wide aromatic range of black and red fruits which harmonises with their intense purple or garnet colour. They also frequently offer hints of mint, plum, chocolate, coffee or liquorice, a bouquet of almond, toast, tobacco and vanilla. Maturity gives them a nose of spices, truffles, undergrowth and gamey scents: fur, leather... Their taste is characterised by their silky tannins, their balance and concentration, enhanced by a delicate oaky note. Feminine and delightful due to the dominance of the Merlot, Château GAZIN wines can be drunk young or after ageing for 10 -15 years or more.
The Château Gazin is a member of the Union of the Great Growths of Bordeaux and of the Academy of Wines of Bordeaux.

Chateau Gombaude Guillot Pomerol Bordeaux France
Owned by the sale family for at least 4 generations, Chateau Gombaude-Guillot is located in the heart of the terroir, on the heights of the Pomerol plateau, opposite the church. Strict observance of biological equilibrium makes it possible to avoid using any chemical treatments or mineral fertilizers. At Gombaude-Guillot, excellence involves respect for the terroir and striving for its purest expression. In 1998, this thrust for quality led to an official restructuring to organic farming. Ageing in barrels makes it possible to refine tannins. A rich, structured wine, blending great finesse with a complex, subtle bouquet: Gombaude-Guillot is a wine ideal for long laying down (20 to 30 years) which can also be appreciated in its youth. |
