Rhone Valley

The Rhone Valley wine region is two thousand years old and produces mainly rich red wines with Appelation Controlee status. It is one of the most largest wine producing regions of France. The Rhone Valley, located in southwest of France, extends along the Rhone river. It attracts many buyers in search of high-quality wine at sensible prices, and well-positioned to compete with wines from the New World.

In the Rhone Valley, there are five main soil types which affect the vines in different ways. As for the climate of the region, it is characterised by warm temperatures and broad strokes of sunshine.
The combination of microclimate, soil and vine, matched with the diversity of winemakers skills, produces wines of incredible power and warmth.

The Cotes du Rhone Villages area extends over 95 communes. Sixteen villages are allowed to quote their name on the wine label. The grape variety of Grenache, Shyraz and Mourvedre are used in the production of red wines. Clairette, Marsanne, Viognier and Roussannne produce white wines.

The Cotes du Rhone Crus are 13 growths, each with their own distinct character. Eight of them are situated between Vienne and Valence, in the Northern part of the region where the predominant grape for the reds is Shyraz: Cotes Rotie, Condrieu, Chateau Grillet, Saint-Joseph, Crozes Hermitage, Hermitage, Cornas, Saint-Peray.
The five others Crus are situated in the Southern part between Montelimar and Avignon and include: Chateauneuf-du-Pape, Gigondas, Vacqueyras, Lirac, Tavel.

Many foreigners come to the region attracted by its lifestyle and quality of life. From North to South, it displays a plethora of land-scapes, typical villages, distinctive vineyards, soils and climates. On the left bank of the Rhone river, you will find the villages of Rochegude, Saint-
Maurice, St Pantaleon Les vignes, Rousset les Vignes. In the South of the region, you will be able to visit Les Beaumes de Venise, Cairanne, rasteau, Roaix, sablet, Valreas or Visan.
